Spring is here! Now that the snow has disappeared and the rain has begun, it is the perfect time to begin planning your at-home garden.

If you are a beginner and are looking to grow your own vegetables, here are some tips to getting started:

While some vegetable plants can be planted directly into the soil, others must be sowed beforehand. Sowing is the process of scattering the seeds on top of or in the earth. Make sure you are aware of what steps to take.
Make sure soil conditions are optimal and that the ground isn’t frozen. You should also avoid planting in all clay or sand soil. It is important to make sure you know what soil is preferred for each vegetable.
Make sure you aren’t over watering your vegetables! Always water at the base so the roots can absorb the water – the whole plant doesn’t need shower!
Most vegetables want sunlight, so keep them in a non-shaded area.
Avoid planting certain vegetables together, as they could negatively impact the growth of one another. For example, potatoes and tomatoes should never be grown side by side.
Some herbs can grow like weeds! For example, mint should be planted in a pot so that they do not overtake the garden, and try to maintain the growing area around dill so that the seeds to not disperse all over your lawn.
